Viktor Gyokeres transfer reality, £60m risk, funds boost - Man United next signing decided
It’s already been a busy summer transfer window for Manchester United with the club making moves in the market as they look to put the disappointment of the season just gone behind them.
Ruben Amorim is being backed by the club, with Matheus Cunha completing a £62.5 million move from Wolves to Old Trafford. United are also pushing to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, having seen their first bid for the player knocked back by the Bees.
There has been a lot of talk over several different names who could still arrive at United before the September 1 deadline. Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with a reunion with Amorim, with the two having worked together at Sporting.
As well as incomings, there’s several players who could be on the move over the next few weeks. Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony are just three players who could leave.
It’s set to be a busy few weeks as United prepare for the new 2025/26 Premier League season. But what should United’s next priority be in the summer window? MEN Sport writers have had their say:
Presuming the transfer for Mbeumo goes through, I think concentration should go on outgoings. Sorting the futures of the likes of Rashford, Garnacho and Antony will both raise funds for more incomings, but also give more certainty.
In an ideal world, players who are likely to move on will be sold before the squad returns to pre-season, that way, players there know that they will be part of plans for the new campaign.
Looking at incomings, one deal that I think United should look at doing is Jonathan David. Latest reports suggest that the striker is open to a move to the club. The 25-year-old scored 16 goals in 32 Ligue 1 appearances last season
