Vieira quotes

Patrick Vieira admitted his frustration after watching Crystal Palace draw 0-0 with Leeds and felt his side should have taken all three points.

Both sides were still long over their shoulders prior to the contest but failed to find a goal between them. Palace dominated possession and had the better chances but the Whites defended well and held on for a valuable point. The result sees the Eagles move on to 38 points and open up a nine-point gap to the drop zone. Leeds have 34 to their name and are five points above 18th-placed Everton.

Although clear-cut chances were at a premium throughout the 90 minutes, the hosts showed most of the attacking threat. And the fact they did not make it count left Vieira vexed.

“I can be frustrated and the team can be frustrated,” he told BBC Sport. “We played some really good football with a high tempo and were the better team but we couldn’t find the net.

“I was pleased and happy with the determination we showed. We just lacked that bit of quality to score those goals.”

Wilfried Zaha is knows as a one of the most fouled players in th Premier League. And Monday’s encounter in south London was no different.

He managed ot show his class at times but was constantly felled by the opposition. And Vieira was pleased with the way he stayed calm.

“I was happy Wilf Zaha kept his cool because it looked like they planned to stop him by fouling him,” he added. “That won’t be the first time teams try to frustrate him.”

Crystal Palace has failed to win a top-flight match snice beating Arsenal 3-0 on April 4. They are unlikely to get sucked into a relegation fight and it would be easy for the players to take their feet off the gas.

But the manager felt the effort level among his charges was exceptional.
