Video slamming Harry Maguire's decision-making right before KDB goal is a painful watch

Manchester United’s Harry Maguire had an afternoon to forget against Manchester City on Sunday.

The Red Devils skipper has come in for relentless criticism this season with his form having nose-dived since Euro 2020, and his performance at the Etihad Stadium did very little to buck the trend.

However, Maguire certainly wasn’t alone in United’s defensive woes as Ralf Rangnick’s set-up for the derby match came apart at the seams after just five minutes of action.

The sight of Kevin De Bruyne rippling the net before the time United had barely had a chance to string a few passes together was a real blow for any hopes of an upset victory on the road.

And although Jadon Sancho looked to have gotten the visitors back in the game with a classy strike against his old club, it wasn’t long before City regained their lead again.

That’s because De Bruyne bagged his second of the game in a bizarre passage of play resembling penalty box pinball in which moments of brilliance intertwined with lamentable clangers.

For each split-second that left fans mesmerised by the gorgeous touch of Phil Foden, there was an inexplicable reminder of United’s defensive ineptitude as they flapped at chances to get the ball clear.

And the nail in the coffin for United when it came to City’s second goal of the night came through, you guessed it, their very own skipper, who didn’t cover himself in glory after David de Gea made a save.

While criticism of Maguire can sometime spill over into cruel hyperbole, there’s no denying that footage of him letting the ball pass through his legs before De Bruyne doubled his money makes for painful viewing.
