Video captures heartwarming video call between Rory McIlroy and his daughter Poppy after Canadian Open win

Rory McIlroy's heartwarming video call with his daughter Poppy was caught on camera after his Canadian Open win.

His 20-month-old daughter told the Hollywood man that he was "number one" minutes after he won his 21st PGA Tour event in Toronto.

McIlroy's wife Erica Stoll could be heard telling little Poppy to tell the 33-year-old how good he did at the tournament.

Poppy can then be heard saying: "Yay dada, dada you won! I love you, great job, you are a winner, you are number one."

McIlroy took aim at the CEO of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series Greg Norman after the victory gave him one more PGA Tour win than the Australian.

Speaking after his victory at St George's Golf and Country Club, he told CBS: "This is a day I'll remember for a long, long time.

"Twenty-first PGA Tour win, one more than someone else, that gave me a little extra incentive today and happy to get it done."

He did all this without his usual caddie Harry Diamond on the bag, as Diamond stayed at home with his wife who is due to give birth.

Because of this, McIlroy's friend Niall O'Connor was on the bag instead.

O'Connor will be familiar to Ulster Rugby fans, having played fly-half for Ulster for four years between 2007 and 2011, making over 50 appearances for the province.

He then moved to Connacht in 2012 before returning to Ulster a year later. O'Connor retired in 2014 after spending a season at Jersey.

O'Connor caddied for McIlroy once before at the 2019 DP Dubai World Championships.

Earlier this week, McIlroy spoke about his relationship with O'Connor: "Sort of bonded through my love of rugby and him playing and our love of golf," said McIlroy.

"He made the move over to the States a few years ago and (we) kept close." McIlroy won the RBC
