Victor Gyokeres makes January transfer statement amid Man United interest and drops future hint

Victor Gyokeres has put paid to any faint hopes Manchester United had of signing him in January by saying that he wants to finish the season with Sporting.

But the 26-year-old has left the door open to a move at the end of this season as he continues to shine as one of the most in-form strikers in Europe, scoring for Sweden in their Nations League win against Slovakia on Saturday night.

Gyokeres has 23 goals in 16 appearances for Sporting this season and has scored five goals in five games for Sweden during their Nations League campaign.

His future in Lisbon is now in the spotlight, with director of football Hugo Viana and head coach Ruben Amorim both departing the club. They were key figures in his decision to join Sporting from Coventry City in 2023.

Amorim has taken over as the new head coach at Old Trafford and United's struggles up front mean the Swede has been touted as a potential signing under the 39-year-old, but the striker has played down the possibility of moving anywhere in January.

“I want to finish this season at Sporting. I love it here," he said.

Gyokeres did admit there was a chance he could leave the club eventually, but stressed he would only move somewhere where he would be guaranteed first-team football.

"New club? We will see when the time comes. I want to play, that’s crucial… and there will be also other factors," he said.
