Vicente Besuijen up for Aberdeen fight after learning from legendary Roman gladiator

Vicente Besuijen was a starry-eyed kid when he trained with Roma’s gladiator Daniele De Rossi.

And now he’s up for the fight of a making a name for himself as he looks to make his mark at Aberdeen.

The Dutch winger was the Dons’ main January signing as he came in from ADO Den Haag in a six-figure deal.

The 20-year-old was at Ajax and Roma as a kid but had to take a step back to move forward and he feels he is now ready to make a giant leap with Aberdeen.

Besuijen was just a teenager at AS Roma but trained regularly with their first-team stars.

He explained:“I had four years at the youth academy of Ajax and then I went to FC Volendam, where I was there for another four years.

“Then when I was 15 I went to Roma and I stayed there for three years, where I trained with the first-team.

“De Rossi is the best player I have played with. It was a big club, big city and a nice experience. I can speak the language so I have developed as a person and it was nice to be there and then I went back to Holland with ADO Den Haag.”

Besuijen is in line to make his debut at Ross County tonight after his weekend bow was wrecked by Storm Malik.

He revealed his parents travelled across to watch him against St Mirren and will now miss his trip to the Highlands.

The Colombian-born player admitted: “I haven’t seen the stadium or the fans. My parents were here as well to see my debut but there was too much wind.

“They will miss the game tonight because they have gone back to Holland.”

Besuijen admitted he had a number of January options but knew from the turn of the year he wanted to come to Aberdeen.
