Vicente Besuijen and Jayden Richardson could revive Aberdeen FC careers as Thelin tells them 'it's a new beginning'

Jimmy Thelin has claimed the slate has been wiped clean and the door is open for Vicente Besuijen and Jayden Richardson to salvage their Aberdeen careers.

The pair were out on-loan last season and had looked surplus to requirements under previous manager Barry Robson at Pittodrie. Winger Besuijen has returned from Emmen and Richardson was at Colchester United but both are back with the Dons squad at their pre-season camp in Portugal. Thelin confirmed: “Everyone has given everything they have in these sessions. They have shown themselves really well and that is good.

“We have made it a new beginning for everyone. We want to give every player an opportunity to show themselves. We didn’t want to prejudge anyone before we arrived. We have tried to identify their qualities, create the balance in the squad and to push everyone, so the players all feel like they have a real chance.”

It will be the same for Pape Habib Gueye if he returns from his loan at Kristiansund. There is Norwegian interest in the striker and it remains to be seen if they will be firmed up before the close of the window. Thelin added: “He is on loan until late July. We have kept open-minded about everyone. From there, we can evaluate everyone and then we can see the balance of the squad.

The Dons have brought in Dimitar Mitov, Peter Ambrose and Gavin Molloy. Others will follow but Thelin is refusing to be rushed into deals unless he feels they are right for Aberdeen and the system he wants to play.

He warned: “It is important to do the right things and make sure we are not getting stressed. It is too easy to get stressed about things. We also need to trust the players who are here already. The window is the window and you never know what can happen.
