Veteran prop Ferreira, three others extend Cheetahs contracts

Four players, including veteran prop Schalk Ferreira, have extended their contracts with the Cheetahs, the franchise announced on Thursday.

Ferreira is joined by Reinhardt Fortuin (flyhalf), Cohen Jasper (fullback) and Andell Loubser (utility back)

At 39, Ferreira is the oldest player in the Cheetahs squad as well as the oldest player to represent the franchise and will be looking to add to his 32 caps for the team.

A product of Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch and has previously represented Western Province, Stormers, Eastern Province, Southern Kings, and Toulouse in France.

Fortuin made his Cheetahs debut on 14 November 2020 as a replacement for the Springbok Frans Steyn in Round 6 of Super Rugby Unlocked against the Stormers in Cape Town. He has played 46 games to date for the Cheetahs.

Jasper joined the Cheetahs after the 2021 Varsity Cup and is at home in several positions in the backline, including fullback and wing. To date, he has represented the Cheetahs on 28 occasions.

Loubser, who has represented the Cheetahs five times, has previously represented the Bulls at U19 and U21 level. A recognized goalkicker, Loubser is equally at home in the No 15 jumper or on the wing.

The Cheetahs are currently top of the Currie Cup log, having won seven out of their nine games.

They take on the Lions in Bloemfontein on Saturday at 13:00.
