Varane, Maguire, Van de Beek, Wan-Bissaka - Manchester United injury news and what Ten Hag has said

Manchester United will be looking for a big response when they return to the field on Thursday but will be without four players for the trip to Omonia Nicosia.

Following on from Sunday's derby defeat at the hands of Manchester City, United have the chance to bounce back in Cyprus as they return to Europa League action ahead of an away day at Everton on Sunday. Erik ten Hag's squad is depleted, however, with Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Donny van de Beek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka all unavailable.

Here is the latest on United's injured stars and when they could return to action.

Raphael Varane

After beginning to return to his best and forming a strong partnership with Lisandro Martinez, the injury curse has afflicted Varane once again. The Frenchman picked up an injury in the first half of Sunday's 6-3 demolition by City and was receiving treatment as Erling Haaland headed in the second unopposed.

Varane played on until it was 4-0 but was then taken off when the game was all but lost. The injury isn't believed to be serious, but Varane won't be making the trip to Cyprus.

What Ten Hag said: "Yes [I expect him back soon] in the case of Rapha, we hope."

Expected return date: N/A

Harry Maguire

Captain Maguire hasn't started for United since the 4-0 defeat to Brentford but suffered a hamstring strain while playing for England in the 3-3 draw with Germany last week. The centre-back is expected to be on the sidelines for longer than Varane.

What Ten Hag said: "Harry will take a little bit longer [than Varane]."

Expected return date:N/A

Donny van de Beek

It looked as though Van de Beek was nearing a return to action but it appears he has suffered a setback.
