Vancouver Canucks poised to name Sedin twins, Ryan Johnson to front office: reports
The Vancouver Canucks are poised to appoint Daniel and Henrik Sedin as co-presidents of the hockey team, according to multiple media reports, and Ryan Johnson as the club's new general manager.
The official announcement is expected at a 1 p.m. PT media conference called by the Canucks.
CBC News will have live coverage of the event.
The Sedins, two of the most respected and successful players in Canucks history, take on the front office positions after serving as development coaches within the organization over the past four years.
Johnson, also a former Canucks player, elevates to the NHL after serving as GM with the farm team Abbotsford Canucks and winning the Calder Cup title in 2025.
The trio have their work cut out for them. Vancouver finished dead last by a wide margin in the NHL regular season with a record of 25 wins, 49 losses and eight overtime losses, resulting in the dismissal of general manager Patrik Allvin.
Jim Rutherford, president of hockey operations, announced last week he was stepping down into an advisory role.
The most interesting questions immediately facing the new management group are whether to retain head coach Adam Foote and who to select with the third overall pick in the upcoming NHL entry draft.
