Vancouver 2025: Team Nigeria wins sitting volleyball’s silver medal as Invictus Games ends

Team Nigeria’s gallant efforts at the 2025 Invictus Games were rewarded with a silver medal in sitting volleyball after losing narrowly to Brazil.

The gold medal game was all heart, passion and precision, but Brazil triumphed at the end, winning the two sets 21-16, 21-7 in 31 minutes at the Vancouver Convention Centre shook .

In the final game watched by Duke of Essex, Prince Harry, Team Nigeria’s Ifeoma Nwagbo tried to rally her troops to a famous win, but the Brazilian side proved just too tough for the Nigerians.

Recapping the event, Prince Harry said, “It was a fierce, competitive display that highlighted the competitors’ physical and mental fortitude. The exciting conclusion served as a poignant reminder of the impact of these games — uniting people from around the world in a powerful display of courage, hope, and shared humanity.”

The Invictus Games is an international multi-sport event first held in 2014, for wounded, injured and sick military service personnel, both serving and veterans. The word ‘Invictus’ is Latin for ‘unconquered’, chosen as an embodiment of the fighting spirit of the wounded, injured and sick service personnel and what they can achieve, post-injury.

The Games ended yesterday with a closing ceremony headlined by Canadian band, Barenaked Ladies and performances by jelly roll and the duo, The War and Treaty.
