Valerien Ismael's West Brom future in doubt as club consider managerial change

Valerien Ismael is fighting for his future at West Bromwich Albion but is set to take training on Wednesday.

Ismael's position is under serious threat after Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Millwall and the Championship club's hierarchy are understood to have discussed the prospect of ending his reign at the Hawthorns.  

West Brom have won only one of their last seven matches in the Championship, with the majority of the club's supporters now turning against the former Barnsley manager.

Ismael's future is in jeopardy due to results, his style of play and concerns over his relationship with some players, with the Albion board weighing up whether to take action to revive their flagging season.

But Ismael will take training on Wednesday when the squad return to Albion's base after a short break following the defeat at Millwall.

It is understood Ismael flew back to Munich on Saturday evening to spend time with his family, with the squad off until Wednesday.

Any decision on Ismael is likely to be made by chief executive Xu Ke and board consultant Ron Gourlay, who has held positions at Chelsea and Reading.

West Brom do not return to league action until a trip to Sheffield United a week on Wednesday, but Ismael's future remains uncertain ahead of that game.

Last week, England international Sam Johnstone was dropped after a row with the Frenchman, while there have been suggestions of fall-outs with other players including Jordan Hugill and Robert Snodgrass.
