USOSA carnival ends amid funfare in Lagos

USOSA carnival

Federal Government College, Idoani, Ondo State and Federal Government College Ogbomoso, Oyo State, emerged overall men and women’s champions of the maiden Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) Sports Carnival held on Saturday in Lagos.

Aside from scooping the overall title, both schools emerged winners in the football event, which was the grand finale.

FGC Idoani won the five-a-side men’s crown, while FGC Ogbomoso went away with the women’s gold medal.

About 1,500 old students from 30 of the 115 Unity Schools braved the heavy downpour earlier in the day to participate in the one-day fiesta, which also had a business exhibition.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the event, Chinedu Okoli, said the turnout of members exceeded their expectations.

Okoli added that USOSAns, by their massive turnout, competitive spirit and sportsmanship, have been able to show others that Nigeria is truly one and united.

The USOSA carnival saw the old students compete for honours in nine field, indoor and board games, while four members were also honoured.

Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), President, Uyi Akpata, Francis Orbih, who is president of Badminton Federation of Nigeria, former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation, Musa Amadu and president of Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Musa Kida, were conferred with special honours.

The awardees expressed gratitude for the gesture from fellow old students and commended USOSA for staging a successful event aimed at promoting the unity and peaceful co-existence of Nigerians.
