USA's Gio Reyna turned into prime Lionel Messi for 15 secs v Mexico and it was incredible

Both USA and Mexico are close to securing their places at the 2022 World Cup.

The CONCACAF rivals played out a 0-0 draw in the early hours of Friday morning UK time, a result that leaves them both on 22 points in their qualifying group.

USA and Mexico are both three points clear of Costa Rica in fourth and four ahead of Panama in fifth.

They also have a much better goal difference than those two nations, which essentially means that victory in one of their final two matches will earn them a ticket to Qatar in the winter.

The World Cup will be a far better spectacle with the two most prestigious footballing nations from CONCACAF involved, although their latest encounter was certainly nothing to write home about.

There’s usually a significant amount of drama whenever USA and Mexico lock horns, but not this time around.

Highlights were few and far between to be honest, although there was at least one moment of jaw-dropping magic from Borussia Dortmund starlet Giovanni Reyna.

The 19-year-old sensation, who is the son of former Manchester City midfielder Claudio, is one of the jewels in USMNT’s crown and he showed exactly what that’s the case against Mexico.

For 15 seconds in the second half, Reyna transformed into prime Lionel Messi and left opposing defenders trailing in his wake.

We see you Gio Reyna
