USA: Are the world champions in a slump after Spain defeat?
The US women’s national team lost their second match in succession after a 2-0 defeat to Spain in Pamplona.
It’s the first time the US have suffered back-to-back defeats in more than five years –– the last time coming back in March 2017, when England and France toppled the world champions.
After losing to the Lionesses in a controversial game at Wembley last Friday, Vlatko Andonovski’s side were well beaten by a Spanish team that were missing the majority of their top stars.
Indeed, 15 Spanish players were excluded from coach Jorge Vilda’s latest squad, after calling on the federation to professionalise the women’s team.
The Americans had conceded just twice in 19 games prior to facing Nigeria last month, but have now shipped goals in each of their last three games.
The USWNT went into this international break with a 21-match unbeaten streak.Friday: England 2-1 USAToday: Spain 2-0 USA
