0525 BUBLIK TAKES OUT PAUL IN FIVE-SET THRILLER
American 14th seed Tommy Paul fell to a 7-6(5) 6-7(4) 6-3 6-7(5) 6-1 defeat by Alexander Bublik in the final match of the day at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Bublik, the 23rd seed, will next face Jannik Sinner.
Earlier, Brazilian 18th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia blazed past former world number three Maria Sakkari 6-1 6-2, booking a round of 16 clash with Wimbledon runner-up Amanda Anisimova.
0305 AUGER-ALIASSIME STUNS ZVEREV
German third seed Alexander Zverev crashed out after a 4-6 7-6(7) 6-4 6-4 loss to Canadian 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Auger-Aliassime, the 2021 U.S. Open semi-finalist, will next face Russian 15th seed Andrey Rublev for a spot in the quarter-finals.
0120 SWIATEK, SINNER PREVAIL
Six-times Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek overcame a fierce challenge by Russian 29th seed Anna Kalinskaya, advancing with a 7-6(2) 6-4 victory. Up next for Swiatek is Russian 13th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Men's top seed Jannik Sinner continued his title defence as he recovered from a first-set setback to beat Canadian 27th seed Denis Shapovalov 5-7 6-4 6-3 6-3.
