‘US investment into English football is a clear, present danger’ – Gary Neville warns fans over Chelsea’s Todd Boehly

Gary Neville has issued a fresh warning over Chelsea’s Todd Boehly and the involvement of American owners in the Premier League.

Chelsea news, exclusives and analysis

Boehly fronts the consortium which bought Chelsea from Roman Abramovich this summer – spending over £250m on players and replacing Thomas Tuchel with Graham Potter – while he has also been involved in a number of recent gaffes.

The businessman allegedly wanted the Blues to play an impossible 4-4-3 formation, has spoken of his desire to introduce an American-style All-Star game which would see players from the north of England take on a team from the south and even admitted he was not against the European Super League.

Chelsea were among the clubs who attempted to form a breakaway European Super League last year, leading to widespread condemnation from fans, pundits, players and managers and even led to protests – with Neville among the biggest critics – as the English clubs involved were eventually forced to make a U-turn.

Boehly, who also thought Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah came through Chelsea’s academy, was speaking at the SALT Conference in the United States this week and was quizzed about the European Super League, saying: ‘I never say hard no’s, I like to keep options alive.’

Neville previously accused Boehly of playing video game Football Manager in real life and has now taken aim at the American once again.

‘I keep saying it but the quicker we get the Regulator in [English football] the better,’ Neville said.
