Urgent warning issued as temperatures set to soar to 30C

A yellow heat health alert has been issued for most of England, as temperatures are set to potentially hit the 30C mark in some areas.

The warning, which covers all regions except the North East, cautions of possible "significant impacts" on both health and social care services. Set to take effect from Monday morning, the alert from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and Met Office is expected to remain active until Thursday afternoon.

Forecasts predict that the South East could see the mercury rise to 30C, with the East Midlands, the east of England, and East Anglia also under strong advisories. The UKHSA has raised concerns about heightened mortality risks among vulnerable groups.

There is also the likelihood of indoor spaces becoming excessively warm, particularly in the north-west, north-east, the west of England, the South West, and London.

Liam Esslick, a meteorologist at the Met Office, commented: "According to the latest models, there is a chance temperatures could reach 30C. It's not guaranteed but this will likely be towards the south-east of England, particularly London, Essex and Kent."

He added, "My advice to people would be by all means go out and enjoy. They have been waiting for summer.

"But UV levels are going to be high and the sun will be very intense. Wear protection like sun cream, stay hydrated and try to get some shade in the midday sun.

"People sensitive to the sun should take particular precautions," said Mr Esslick.
