Updated Leinster's Ross Byrne ruled out of Connacht clash

Leinster out-half Ross Byrne has been ruled out of contention for Saturday's BKT URC clash with Connacht with an arm injury.

The Ireland back was injured early in the weekend's 21-16 victory over Munster at the Aviva Stadium while attempting a tackle on Craig Casey.

The 28-year-old was replaced by Ciarán Frawley and now requires further assessment but won't play any role in Galway.

"Ross Byrne will have further examination for an arm injury picked up at the weekend but has been ruled out of selection this week," said the province, for whom senior coach Jacques Nienaber started work this afternoon after finishing his World Cup commitments with South Africa.

"I don't know any specifics," scrum coach Robin McBryde told RTÉ Sport.

"It's just unfortunate for Ross really. The incumbent 10 really after Johnny [Sexton's retirement]. Just on his return he picks up an injury so I don't know the details but it must be very frustrating for him."

Props Michael Milne and Cian Healy, and scrum-half Cormac Foley are continuing rehab on shoulder injuries.

There were no further updates on Tommy O'Brien (ankle), Luke McGrath (knee), John McKee (hamstring) and Alex Soroka (foot).
