Donal Lenihan: Leinster move for RG Snyman would 'make sense'

Donal Lenihan believes Leinster landing the signing of RG Snyman would "make a lot of sense" for the province should a move be confirmed after he departs Munster at the end of the season.

The two-time World Cup winner's time at Munster has been plagued by injuries that have restricted his on-pitch involvement since his 2020 arrival and last month, the province confirmed that the Springbok second row would leave for pastures new at the end of the season.

With reports that Snyman's next destination could well be to remain in Ireland by switching to rivals Leinster, where South Africa's World Cup-winning head coach Jacques Nienaber has since arrived, Donal Lenihan reacted to the potential development on RTÉ's Morning Ireland.

"If you think about it coldly, it makes a lot of sense. Jacques Nienaber, who is the South African World Cup-winning coach, he's obviously at Leinster now. He has massive time for Snyman.

"Snyman is a world class player, featured in six of the seven World Cup games for South Africa.

"It's just been incredibly unfortunate for Munster that he's had so much injury. But I think Munster people will be really disappointed if he ends up in Leinster.

"But if I'm in that Leinster management group and you've got an opportunity of getting Snyman - think about it from his point of view, he wouldn't have to leave Ireland, his family I know love it in Limerick - it makes a lot of sense even if there'll be a sting to the tail, I think from a Munster perspective. He'd be a brilliant signing for Leinster."
