Updated Gowran Park cancelled due to weather, fillies Group 3 moved to Fairyhouse

Gowran Park's Saturday meeting has fallen victim of persistent rain with the Kilkenny venue forced to cancel the seven-race Flat card.

Following an inspection, the track was found to be unfit for racing and the fixture has been cancelled.

Paddy Graffin, Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Clerk of the Course at Gowran Park said: "There was heavy rain overnight and into this morning with a Status Yellow weather warning issued by Met Éireann. We had 32mm of rain up to 9am this morning and since then there has been a further 17mm here at Gowran Park.

"Due to the persistent rain I arrived here earlier than planned for the inspection and as soon as I got out onto the track it was clear that we were going to be in trouble. Having walked the track, many parts of it are waterlogged and not fit for racing.

"It is still raining steadily here at the moment with the possibility of a further 10mm prior to racing tomorrow which means that the track will have no chance to become raceable. Unfortunately, we've been left with no option but to cancel the fixture scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

"Gowran Park manager, Eddie Scally, is currently consulting with IHRB and HRI about rescheduling the fixture at a later date."

The Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes (Group 3) is transferred to the Fairyhouse meeting scheduled for this Monday, 18 September to form an eight-race card.

The distance of this race will now be one mile, one furlong and 20 yards (formerly one mile, one furlong and 100 yards). This race reverts back to entries after final forfeits stage with fresh declarations to run to be made by 10am on Saturday.
