Update outlines Tottenham’s transfer stance over in-form Nottingham Forest player

Tottenham are interested in signing Djed Spence this summer but he is not the only name they are considering for the right wing-back role.

The 21-year-old, who is on loan at Nottingham Forest from Middlesbrough, has been outstanding for the Reds this season, with his performances key to Steve Cooper’s rise up the Championship table.

Therefore, there has been plenty of speculation surrounding his future, with a host of clubs, including Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Spurs all credited with an interest, whilst Forest will surely be back in for Spence if they win promotion.

However, given the calibre of those other clubs, a deal will be tough, but they may take encouragement from the fact that Spurs are by no means totally set on bringing in the youngster, as reporter Alasdair Gold provided an update to Football London.

“Spurs like Djed Spence. Fabio Paratici went to watch him recently. Spence certainly ticks the homegrown box and is a talented young defender with plenty of attacking potential.

“I wouldn’t be surprised, however, if Spurs look at Stephane Singo, Torino’s 21-year-old right wing-back. He ticks a lot of boxes for Spurs, Paratici and Conte.”

The verdict

You would imagine it’s going to be a big battle to land Spence in the summer because he is a very exciting player who has the potential to get even better.

So, you can understand why Spurs are looking at different options and their knowledge of the Italian market could mean they target Singo instead.

Either way, that is unlikely to impact the hefty price Boro will receive for the player, whilst Forest know the only chance they have of keeping Spence is if they win promotion. For now though, his only focus will be on helping the team to the top-flight.
