Update emerges on Wayne Rooney’s position at Derby County
Derby County boss Wayne Rooney is guaranteed to remain at Pride Park until the end of the season but may quit after that if some of his key demands aren’t met, as per a report from the Daily Star.
The 36-year-old has been forced to deal with considerable off-field turmoil in the East Midlands this term, first having to contend with strict transfer embargo restrictions that prevented them from making any signings until August.
This was just the tip of the iceberg for the Rams though, who had narrowly escaped relegation last season, with the Rams going into administration in September and being deducted 12 points because of that.
Further pain was to come with a further nine-point deduction for historical financial misdemeanours hampering the East Midlands outfit in their bid to survive and the club unable to sign any players during the winter window.
That didn’t stop departures though, with three key first-teamers in Graeme Shinnie, Phil Jagielka, Luke Plange and Kamil Jozwiak all departing the relegation-threatened side in 2022.
Currently sitting bottom of the table, they have done well just to get within eight points of safety going into the final set of games of the 2021/22 season but look set to be relegated to the third tier unless they drastically improve their form.
And though Rooney has remained committed to the cause so far, the Daily Star are now reporting that he is growing increasingly frustrated at the uncertainty surrounding the club with the Manchester United legend unable to make transfer plans for the summer as he continues to wait to hear a preferred bidder announcement.
