Update emerges in Watford’s pursuit of EFL striker

Rob Edwards will be striving to assemble a squad at Watford that is capable of succeeding in the Championship when the new campaign begins at the start of next month.

The Hornets, who start the new season with a home game against Sheffield United, are looking to strengthen before August 1.

One player that the Hertfordshire club have been linked with is Peterborough United striker Jonson Clarke-Harris, as per a Patreon from journalist Alan Nixon.

However, an update from the Peterborough Telegraph claims that Posh are yet to receive any sort of communication from the Championship outfit regarding the forward.

Clarke-Harris netted 12 times in the Championship for Peterborough last season, adding to the 31 goals he scored to help his side to promotion the season before.

The report states that Posh will be expecting to make at least a 100% profit on the £1 million they paid Bristol Rovers for the frontman’s service back in 2020.

The verdict

Proving to cut it at Championship level last season, during a difficult year for the relegated club, it is no surprise to see second-tier interest surface for the 27-year-old.

A physical forward, who can link the play well, Clarke-Harris has also displayed an excellent ability to score goals over the past couple of seasons for Peterborough.

Really starting to shine during the latter stages of last season, Clarke-Harris is someone who could succeed in the second-tier if provided with consistent service.

It remains to be seen if Watford’s initial interest materialises into a conversation with Peterborough, and further, any sort of offer.
