Unspoilt views and a babbling brook, the lovely Yorkshire village 90 minutes away

With rolling green hills and breathtaking valleys, the Yorkshire Dales boasts one of the most beautiful landscapes in the north of England. As well as being home to miles and miles of unspoilt land, it’s also where you'll find several charming towns and villages.

Nestled in the heart of this national park is the village of Kettlewell where you’ll find narrow streets lined with stone cottages and welcoming country pubs. Situated in the Wharfedale valley, it’s overlooked by Great Whernside to the east and everywhere in the village has stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Running through the centre of the village is Kettlewell Beck, which feeds into the River Wharfe. The beck is crossed by several small bridges, giving the village a higgledy-piggledy feel to it.

Take a stroll through the narrow streets and you’ll see dozens of gorgeous limestone cottages, with small gardens just visible over rustic walls. Among the buildings are cosy tearooms, cafes and several pubs.

The beer garden at the Blue Bell Inn is perfect for enjoying a cool drink on a summer’s day. Or if you need to pick up a snack before a walk in the Dales, stop by the Kettlewell Village Store, a convenience store which has everything you need -including freshly made sandwiches.

The village isn’t just known for its beauty, every August it hosts its famous scarecrow festival. For a week the village is taken over by a range of figures, recreating scenes from history, pop culture and current affairs.

Kettlewell is around an hour and a half’s drive away from Greater Manchester and it’s the perfect place to use as a base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales.
