Unseen moment Scotland SURVIVED penalty to Hungary as 'axe' falls on blundering ref for Euro 2024 gaffes

UEFA wielding the Euro 2024 axe on blundering Argentina referee Facundo Tello is seen as an admission that the South American was wrong not to award Scotland a penalty against Hungary - with the VAR team following the whistler in an early exit from Germany for their failure in the controversial incident.

But while it vindicates Steve Clarke for his fuming post match rant, it appears Scotland might also have benefited from Tello’s inability to do his job properly with European football’s governing body also believing the Magyars could have had a spot kick.

The big talking point from Hungary’s 1-0 win over Scotland in Stuttgart was Wili Orban’s foul on Stuart Armstrong which incensed the Scotland camp. However, it’s being reported that UEFA bosses also believe a first half elbow by Grant Hanley on Ferencvaros full back Endre Botka could have been a penalty.

That would have evened out the mistakes made by Tello but, regardless, his performance looks to be enough to see him sent home. And Spanish reports say VAR Alejandro Hernandez has been binned for “not evaluating the play as indicated in the instructions” over the Armstrong incident.
