"Unheard of" – Journalist drops big Tottenham claim amid "bizarre" Antonio Conte situation

Tottenham and PSG doing a managerial swap would be “almost unheard of”, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

A recent report from France suggested that Antonio Conte could become the new manager of the Ligue 1 champions with Mauricio Pochettino returning to north London in a sensational swap deal.

According to French outlet Le Parisien, just days after guiding PSG to their tenth league title, they’re planning on removing Pochettino from his position as manager, with the ex-Spurs boss happy to leave his post at the Parc des Princes.

Pochettino has won three domestic trophies during his 16 months in the job, but his failure in the Champions League has ultimately led to his imminent departure, with the Argentine unable to reach a European final in his two seasons in France.

The same reports suggests that Conte has offered his services to become Pochettino’s replacement despite the Italian having more than 12 months remaining on his Tottenham contract.

Conte has faced constant uncertainty surrounding his future in north London from almost the moment he replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in November, and Jones reckons that his poor Champions League record would make him a “bizarre” choice to replace Pochettino.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s almost unheard of that you would see something like that happen.

“It’s a bit bizarre that PSG, the one thing they’re chasing is Champions League glory, and Antonio Conte’s record in the Champions League is not something you would be staring at thinking ‘that is a guy that is ready to lift the Champions League’ so it’s a bit surprising that’s the route they would want to go down.”
