Unhappy Manchester United Players Compare Coaching Staff To Ted Lasso

Manchester United players have 'jokingly' likened assistant manager Chris Armas to fictional American coach Ted Lasso at the club's Carrington training base.

A number of United stars also think some of the training sessions are "old fashioned", according to the report, with Rangnick handing over the majority of them to assistant Armas.

Armas, who was named assistant shortly after Rangnick was appointed, previously spent time with New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC before joining the ranks at Old Trafford.

Since his arrival, some players have likened Armas to popular character Ted Lasso - the fictional AFC Richmond coach who lacks football knowledge, but makes up for it with bundles of optimism, determination and biscuits.

In addition to the "old fashioned" claim, some players have complained 'among themselves' that Rangnick's sessions are often based on 11 vs. 11 work.

They believe more dynamic drills would be more beneficial between games.

Last month, Rangnick said he was adamant that the former New York Red Bulls assistant had earned the respect of the United dressing room.

"He’s very helpful, not only very loyal but also very helpful and it’s very helpful he’s a native speaker," Rangnick said about assistant Armas.

"He knows how to communicate with players and he also has a high level of respect now from the players, they know that he’s a good guy and also a good expert in different areas. I’m very happy to have him on board.”
