Under pressure Tinkler spices up Chiefs' Cape visit: 'That gold jersey gives us motivation!'

Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler believes the visit of Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday is the perfect motivation for his players to show up and get a positive result.

The Citizens are without a win in their past seven DStv Premiership fixtures that dates back to the tail-end of last season, and the pressure is starting to mount.

Tinkler's charges have now suffered three defeats and two draws in their first five matches of the 2022/23 campaign, which leaves them rooted to the bottom of the standings.

It is expected that the stadium will garner huge crowds for Amakhosi's visit but aside from that, Tinkler knows it can inspire his charges against the Soweto giants.

"That gold jersey does give you a little bit more confidence and belief as a player. So, its the same for us when we see the gold jersey it gives us more motivation [to do well]. I don't think that's changed. They still have 'big team' status," Tinkler said.

"Kaizer Chiefs draw massive crowds. That's what you want to be playing in front of. That's extra motivation. You have to come out and compete on the day. That's the most important factor and stick to what you're been doing."

Despite City's torrid start to the campaign, they have huge expectations of competing on all fronts, but it has not gone to plan for Tinkler.

However, the former Bafana Bafana midfielder is not feeling any pressure.

"I never have a good sleep at night whether I win or lose. I went 14 games without a loss (last season), and I still didn't sleep at night. That's the pressure of football my friend.

"If you can't handle pressure, then don't be involved in the sport. That's just a fact. As a player, if you are a striker, the pressure is to score goals.
