Boxer Amaar Akbar wants to put Dewsbury on the map and is striving for world fame.

After being snapped up by British boxing legend Frank Warren, the 22-year-old is "focused on his goals" to surpass the likes of Tyson Fury. Amaar, who went to Mirfield Free Grammar School, started out in boxing at age 14 and he "sparked from there".

He was luckily able to train at his dad's boxing club Warrior Breed in Bradford Road; the sport had been an "integral" part of the family tree for decades. "He was a prodigy as soon as he put those gloves on," dad and manager Zahir Akbar said.

At age 18 he began making a name for himself as an amateur boxer winning two national titles, two national finals, six Yorkshire titles and he has also represented Great Britain. What's more, he has been a consistent sparring partner with ex British champion Tyrone Nurse from Huddersfield.
