‘Unacceptable’ - Erik ten Hag hits out at Ajax fans after ex-Manchester United player Daley Blind booed

Manchester United managerial candidate Erik ten Hag has slammed Ajax fans who decided to boo former United star Daley Blind during the club’s 3-2 win over Feyenoord before the international break.

Audible cheers were heard when the defender was substituted off in the second half, something that is said to have affected Blind. Ajax defeated Groningen 3-1 at the weekend as Dusan Tadic was booed by opposition fans, for whom he used to play for.

“We can learn a lesson from other countries where players are treated with more respect.” Teammate Davy Klaasen admitted he could “feel it (the boos) getting to him (Blind)”.

Blind has played more than 300 times for Ajax, winning ten trophies in that time. He was brought to the club by former boss Louis Van Gaal, who revealed on Sunday that he is battling cancer.

Blind, 32, played 141 times for United between 2014 and 2018, winning an FA Cup, a League Cup and a Europa League. Ten Hag’s comments defending the former Old Trafford player may indicate what type of character Red Devils fans can expect should he be appointed as the club’s next permanent manager.

The 52-year-old has previously shown that he isn’t afraid to pull punches when critiquing United’s treatment of Donny
