Ukraine legend and ex-Tottenham star Sergei Rebrov fears for parents trapped in Kyiv

Ukrainian football legend Sergei Rebrov – who played in the Premier League for Tottenham and West Ham – last night told the Mirror about his fears for his parents trapped in Kyiv.

Dubai-based Rebrov, 47, below, was signed by Spurs in 2000 and was part of a feared forward partnership with Andriy Shevchenko for his national team.

He said he is getting calls and messages of support from many in the football world including former England star David Platt and ex-Spurs boss Tim Sherwood.

He said: “My parents are in Kyiv, they are in their advanced years.

“My father has health problems. Each day they have to go to bomb shelters underground, like everyone else. I call them every day and we pray together. Hope that all this will soon be over.”

Of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, he said: “I am happy sanctions are affecting people who are funding Putin’s regime. If sanctions involved Abramovich, that leaves no doubt that he was directly connected to Putin. So I support that.

“I am getting countless messages from England. David Platt messages me very frequently, he is very worried. Many players I’ve played with or against are asking ‘what can we do for you and for Ukraine?’ I am overwhelmed and grateful.”
