Ukraine invasion map: Where Russian troops are moving and the location of key cities

Russian troops have begun to move into Ukraine in what has been called an 'unjustifiable attack' by the UK home secretary.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin announced earlier today that a military operation had been launched into Ukraine with explosions being heard in Kyiv and other major Ukrainian cities.

Ukraine borders Russia mainly along the North and East where Putin has been mobilising his troops.

Russian forces have been entering through Belarus and Crimea, as well as along the Russian border into Kharkiv.

Ukraine has also now lost control of the Chernobyl nuclear site, where forces had waged a fierce battle with Russian troops, a presidential adviser in Ukraine has confirmed.

This could be a key site for troops entering Kyiv, experts have suggested.

The Ukrainian minister of foreign affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, described the incision as "a full-scale attack from multiple directions".

Many politicians have condemned the invasion, including Prime Minister Boris Johnson who described the invasion as a 'catastrophe for our continent".

He added: “President Putin has chosen a path of bloodshed and destruction by launching this unprovoked attack on Ukraine.

“The UK and our allies will respond decisively.”

Russia has moved its troops across the border in the northeast region of Chernihiv which separates Kyiv from Belarus - resulting in conflict being seen in the country's capital.

A large air assault has also been confirmed by Ukrainian authorities at Antonov International Airport in Hostomel, located to the northwest of Kyiv.
