UFC news: Daniel Cormier waxes lyrical about Raul Rosas Jr

UFC commentator Daniel Cormier has explained the importance of the promotion signing teenage sensation Raul Rosas Jr.

Just a few short weeks ago, the Ultimate Fighting Championship made history by signing Raul Rosas Jr to a deal with the company at just 17 years old. The 6-0 star is officially the youngest fighter to be signed by the UFC and he’s done so in the wake of an incredibly impressive performance on Dana White’s Contender Series which saw him cruise past Mando Gutierrez via unanimous decision.

While it’d be smart for everyone to take their time with Rosas Jr before properly moving him up the card, there’s no denying that this kid has a whole lot of potential – and has shown some real maturity at such a young age.

A lot of folks are focusing on some of the negatives associated with this move but there are also plenty of reasons to feel hopeful, as Daniel Cormier noted during a recent episode of his podcast.

“I get it. I get why they’re doing it, obviously it’s a great story it was everywhere, the kid is going into the video game already. He has drawn the attention of people, but there is going to have to be a lot of people who step up to guide him, at least for a few years, to make sure that not only is he developing physically, but mentally inside of the UFC’s Octagon.”

“This is a big moment for the UFC and a big moment for a kid, because I believe now you’re gonna have lifelong martial artists, kids who do everything from very young, getting in these positions.
