UFC London results: Tom Aspinall beats Alexander Volkov to cap off a crazy night for British MMA

Tom Aspinall certainly lived up to expectations on Saturday night.

The British MMA fighter passed his biggest test with flying colours by tapping Alexander Volkov in the main event of UFC Fight Night 204 at the O2 Arena in London.

Fighting in front of a crowd for the first time in his career, Aspinall carried the hopes of a nation on his shoulders.

So when 20,000 fans started chanting his name as he made his way to the octagon he had every right to feel a little nervous.

However, with Colin Heron in his corner, he seemed completely relaxed despite the scale of the task at hand.

Standing 6ft 7in tall, Volkov had a two-inch advantage in height and reach over his opponent.

But Aspinall quickly took control as he used his speed and athleticism to his advantage.

And the fight was over after he locked in a straight armlock and Volkov tapped almost instantly.

Elsewhere, most of the British talent on display also walked away victorious, with Paul Craig’s first-round submission of Nikita Krylov arguably the pick of the bunch.

Liverpool duo Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann kept the momentum going with a pair of finishes apiece, while Cage Warriors alumni Jack Shore also impressed with a unanimous decision win over the highly experienced Timur Valiev.
