UFC 280 Predictions: Justin Gaethje gives big Oliveira vs Makhachev pick

UFC 280 is set to be headlined by a huge Lightweight Championship match between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev, and now 155-pound contender Justin Gaethje has given his pick for the clash.

‘The Highlight’ was last in action back at UFC 274, where he lost to Oliveira, but the Brazilian fighter had already lost his title on the scales, so he was unable to keep the Championship.

Gaethje will be hoping to be one of the next in line for a title shot, after an impressive win over Michael Chandler back in November 2021, but who does he think he could potentially be facing for the 155-pound belt?

Here is the prediction that Justin Gaethje gave for the UFC 280 main event between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev on Saturday, October 22nd 2022.

Speaking to FanSided MMA’s Amy Kaplan, Gaethje revealed who he can see taking the win in the massive main event.

He said: “I told them [the UFC] that I’ll be ready next year sometime. I haven’t been able to spar yet, but I am in good shape. I’m getting more hungry to compete, so next year anytime.

“They [Oliveira and Makhachev] are fighting for the championship and I’ll definitely be watching it. There are a couple of different scenarios I keep playing out. Most likely Makhachev wins by decision, I’m not sure how it will go. Oliveira’s been impressive, I’m excited to watch it.

It’s quite the prediction from the former challenger to the 155-pound gold, and he will be hoping to move back into title contention when he returns to the octagon in 2023.
