UFC 279: Khamzat Chimaev sends chilling threat to Nate Diaz with 'gangster' comparison

UFC star Khamzat Chimaev is ready to prove a point to the world, and Nate Diaz, when they collide at UFC 279.

Last week it was made official: Khamzat Chimaev will meet Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 279 on September 10. It’s a bout that has been heavily rumoured for months now and while it may seem like a mismatch on paper, Diaz’s team have reportedly made it clear that they were the ones asking to square off against ‘Borz’.

These two men couldn’t be more different in terms of their style inside the cage but as we get closer and closer to fight night, more and more fans are insisting that something special could happen as the Stockton king gets ready for one more ride in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Diaz hasn’t said a whole lot since signing on the dotted line but during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Chimaev didn’t hold back when giving his thoughts on this titanic showdown.

“I still don’t believe that guy will come or show up, that skinny boy,” Chimaev said. “We’ll see what’s happening. I’m just waiting for Sept.10. It doesn’t matter who I have. I’m training. I said, ‘If you want to fight at [185 pounds] for his last fight, just show up. I can fight at [185 pounds]. It doesn’t matter.”

“If they gave me Kamaru Usman, I’d do the same thing,” Chimaev said. “For me, it doesn’t matter. The guy is just a fighter. He’s still dangerous. He fights until the last second. I’m happy he’s fighting with me. He’s one of the legends. He’s one of the ones everyone is speaking [about] like, ‘Gangster, gangster.’ I’m going to show who’s the gangster. Like I told before, we’re from Chechnya. We eat the gangsters for breakfast.”
