UFC 279 best bets: How will Nate Diaz fare against Tony Ferguson?

After a whirlwind of a day in Las Vegas, there are three new fights at the top of UFC 279 (Sat. 10 p.m. ET on ESPN+ PPV). Nate Diaz will now face Tony Ferguson at welterweight after Khamzat Chimaev missed on the scales by more than seven pounds. Kevin Holland, who successfully made weight for his 180-pound catchweight bout against Daniel Rodriguez, will take on Chimaev in a five-round fight, and Ferguson's old opponent, Li Jingliang, now faces Rodriguez.

Odds came out late Friday for each of the new fights. What are the bets to make before the action starts at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday in Las Vegas? Reed Kuhn and Ian Parker offer up their picks for the card.

Kuhn: Ferguson to win, slight lean

Ferguson stands to gain the most from the chaos this weekend. This matchup for Diaz gives him a much better chance for victory compared to his previous opponent in Jingliang, but it will still be an intense scrap while it remains standing. Ferguson, finally, is not facing an opponent with an offensive wrestling threat, meaning he'll have more time and space to unleash his diverse striking arsenal.

And while Diaz's striking is still a threat, he's not the power striker that Ferguson's prior opponent is (Michael Chandler), and Diaz is closer to a natural lightweight (like Ferguson).

Ferguson's years of wear and tear might be less of a liability in this matchup, and we'll get to see if he still has the skills that powered him through the long win streak that ended with a title shot. He's a mild, but justified favorite, however there isn't much value in the current line.
