Uefa suspend coaches of Leicester City's possible Conference League opponents over incident

Uefa have launched an investigation into an incident between coaches at Bodo/Glimt and Roma ahead of the second leg between Leicester City’s potential Europa Conference League semi-final opponents.

European football’s governing body have stepped in following accusations of physical violence from both sides after the quarter-final first leg last Thursday, which the Norwegian side won 2-1. While they investigate, they have suspended both Glimt’s manager Kjetil Knutsen and Roma goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos.

The incident occurred outside the two dressing rooms after the game, with both clubs releasing statements to accuse the other of the alleged attack. In their press release, Glimt said they had reported Santos to Norwegian police, and had passed on video to Uefa, adding that Roma were “bombarding the media with untruths”.

Following the announcement of Uefa’s suspension of the duo, pending a ruling by their ethics and disciplinary body, Glimt said last night: “We are surprised and shocked by Uefa's decision. We will appeal, and will work on it throughout the evening. Beyond that, we currently have no comments.”

Both sides have their own versions of the incident. Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini accused Knutsen of attacking Santos, saying: “The dressing rooms are opposite each other. Knutsen started saying something to our goalkeeping coach and then attacked him.

“It was an unpleasant incident for the competition and for fair play. I'm disappointed because we came here with respect, but incidents like this are an insult to Roma and to the competition. It's shameful.”
