Barnsley confirm fresh player agreement finalised

Barnsley have confirmed that midfielder Matty Wolfe has agreed a new deal that will see him remain at Oakwell until the summer of 2024.

The academy graduate featured for the Reds a few years ago but he has only managed to establish himself as a regular recently, having come back from a loan spell with Esbjerg fB in the first part of the campaign.

It’s fair to say that Wolfe has made a positive impression in his ten appearances, with his form catching the eye and helping the team to positive results, even if they have a lot of work to do to stay in the Championship.

But, no matter what happens in the next month or so, the 21-year-old has committed his future to the Tykes, as they announced that he had signed a two-year contract on their official site last night.

And, CEO Khaled El-Ahmad revealed his delight after the agreement was reached.

“We are thrilled that Matty has chosen to extend his stay with us. He is a player with a lot of talent and potential, who is still continuing to develop within our first team set-up.”

The verdict

This is fantastic news for Barnsley as Wolfe has been a rare positive this season and he has made a real impact when he has been given a chance.

So, with his age, you would expect him to become a key figure at the club over the next few years, whether that is in the Championship or the third tier.

As for Wolfe, he clearly thinks he is at the right club to help his development and he will look to kick-on and improve as a player now.
