UEFA in Scotland fixture blunder as Tartan Army told to disregard Euro 2024 qualifying calendar

Scotland fans have been asked to disregard the Euro 2024 qualifying fixtures after a UEFA cock up.

Steve Clarke ’s side were drawn in Group A as the path to Germany 2024 was mapped out in Frankfurt this morning. The Scots were handed a tough but certainly not impossible draw with Spain out as the top seeds, Erling Haaland’s Norway third and Cyprus and Georgia making up the five-team table.

The fixture details for the campaign were announced earlier tonight. But now the Scottish FA has been informed by UEFA that an issue with the calendar was noticed after game details were published and as a result, now have to be done again. In the original schedule, Scotland were handed a home start against Cyprus, with a potential shoot-out against Norway pencilled in for the last fixture. Spain were set to visit Hampden in March before the return fixtures in October 2023.

That’s all been ripped up though as fans await a new fixture list being published. It’s already a bit late for some, who had booked travel and accommodation as soon as the fixtures were released.

The SFA tweeted: “UEFA have issued the following statement:

“We regret to inform you that we have noticed an issue with the calendar and we ask you to DISREGARD the fixture list that was sent out. A new version will be issued as soon as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience caused.

“Following the above communication we have received from UEFA we are awaiting clarification as to how this affects our fixtures. We will update when UEFA provide us with more information.”
