Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk could be decided by major rule change proposal

A huge rule change could be implemented for Tyson Fury's undisputed world heavyweight champion dust-up with Oleksandr Usyk, as a proposal is put forward to have six judges score the fight, not just three.

Fury was supposed to fight Usyk last weekend in Saudi Arabia. But he got a cut over his eye while training and couldn't compete. The big fight is now planned for May 18. If Fury or Usyk can't fight on that date, they could be fined £10million by Turki Alalsheikh from Saudi Arabia.

The boss of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaiman, is worried about a bad scorecard spoiling the fight. This fight carries extra significance because the winner will be the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999. Sulaiman thinks having more judges could stop any problems with the scores.

He told Sky Sports: "That is my recommendation [to have six judges]. We will see. Boxing is a sport in which change is very difficult to get. We're purists, traditionalists, we don't want changes. I will continue to make the proposal. Some like the idea, some of the people in the decision-making process. We will see.

"Anybody can have a bad night. If you have one judge have a bad night and the two others get it correct, you still save the fight. You have two judges with a difficult fight and then one round can shift the whole result. If you have more officials then the possibility of a wrong score goes to a minimum. That's the only intention to make sure there's no controversy.
