Tyson fury vs Anthony Joshua: Oleksandr Usyk breaks his silence

After Oleksandr Uysk’s victory over Anthony Joshua talk turned, almost immediately, to a unification bout with Tyson Fury.

Uysk retained his WBA, IBF and WBO belts with his victories while the “Gypsy King” holds the WBC title.

The Ukrainian initially said he wanted to face Fury, however, after talking about retirement after his latest defence the WBC champion was keen to get back in the ring and wanted to face Uysk before the turn of the year.

Usyk is keen to get a full recovery and spend time with his family after the Joshua fight so had ruled himself out until 2023.

Fury has since set up a “Battle of Britain” clash with Joshua, which has captured the imagination of the public and promises to reward both fighters financially.

After being criticised by the “Gypsy King” for not wanting to get the unification clash on for November or December of this year, Uysk has broken his silence, suggesting that Fury’s impatience has prevented boxing fans from seeing the event that they want above all others.

Michael Benson of talkSPORT has tweeted a quote from Uysk, via an interview with Ring, when asked about the forthcoming ‘Battle of Britain’.

“I’m not p***ed off. The bigger problem is Fury is not letting fans see one of the best bouts in boxing history. That’s his fault. Not mine. From a sportsmanship standpoint, it’s not correct.”
