Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua: Bob Arum 'sceptical' fight happens as deadline passes

Tyson Fury‘s promoter Bob Arum remains ‘sceptical’ that a fight with Anthony Joshua will happen from ‘a practical aspect.’

The Gypsy King, 34, is expected to return to the ring before the end of the year a few months after announcing his retirement.

Fury is in talks to fight Joshua in a battle of Britain despite his fellow Brit recently losing his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.

But now Arum has cast doubt on the fight taking place as he thinks that it is too big of a risk for Joshua.

Joshua apparently had up until the end of yesterday to reply to the offer from Fury.

However, the deadline has now officially passed, which seems to have all but ended the chances of it happening anytime soon.

“Speaking on Fury’s behalf and after talking with Frank Warren we would be delighted to do that fight,” Arum told iD Boxing, when asked about the prospect of a potential matchup between the pair.

“But I really don’t think that Hearn and Joshua are serious about it because if I was handling Joshua after having lost twice to Usyk I would give him two fights to restore his confidence and then fight Fury after Fury beats Usyk.

“Queensberry is handling all of this and Frank and George keep us posted. But deadlines come and they go and I can’t talk about it. If Joshua really wants that fight I would love to go ahead and do it this year but I’m really sceptical.

“I just don’t think it’s going to. I really don’t. Not from Fury’s standpoint but the practical aspect of Joshua.

“I think Joshua needs a couple of confidence fights.”
