Tyson Fury: The brutal punch that resulted in plastic surgery & nearly ended unbeaten run

Tyson Fury will put his unbeaten record on the line when he faces Dillian Whyte but he was almost beaten by one punch in particular.

Fury comfortably beat Tom Schwarz in his first fight after the thrilling draw against American, Deontay Wilder.

Fighting Otto Wallin in September 2019, he suffered an almighty scare when the Swedish boxer landed an excellent punch.

Wallin opened up a cut above the Gypsy King’s right eye and then proceeded to try and take advantage of that.

The Swede threw a left hook, before he then went and landed a big punch over the top of Fury’s eye.

On another night, the fight may have been stopped for that because the 33-year-old needed 47 stitches to sew up the cut with blood streaming down his face.

Fury responded in the way champions do as he ended up winning the fight on points to maintain his undefeated record.

The judges scored the fight 116-112, 117-111 and 118-110 but it was far from a comfortable night’s work.

The British heavyweight has a lot to thank Jorge Capetillo for as the Mexican was Fury’s cutman for that fight.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Capetillo said: “He is still very grateful.

“When he knew we were locked down because of Covid-19 and my gym was closed, he texted me and said: ‘Is there anything I can do to help?’

“He is still taking care of me. He sent me money. Such generosity for me and my family.

“He is a great man, so humble. He had the time to ask how I was doing with my family during the crisis.”

It is perhaps a side of Fury that is not often seen but it goes to show the kind of man that he is away from the public eye.

Capetillo helped to keep Fury’s unbeaten record and he has felt gratitude to the Mexican ever since.
