Tyson Fury given unusual advice to help cut heal quicker ahead of Oleksandr Usyk fight

Tyson Fury has been given a surprising tip to help him recover for his rescheduled fight against Oleksandr Usyk. He's been told that eating garlic could speed up the healing of the cut above his eye.

Fury was meant to fight Usyk last weekend in Saudi Arabia, but had to pull out after sustaining a cut over his right eye during training. The big fight is now set for May 18, but there are worries that Fury might need more time to get better from his injury, which is the same one he got in his tense 2019 win against Otto Wallin.

George Lockhart, who plans diets for Fury and UFC star Conor McGregor before their fights, said that while food can't heal a cut by itself, foods full of micro-nutrients like spinach and garlic can help the body heal. Lockhart told Betway: "[Tyson should eat] a lot of red meats and stuff with iron in it. Not just meats but things with a lot of micro-nutrients in it, including garlic, spinach, carrots, onion, and mix everything together. Garlic is a great source to help you recover quickly as it kills off bacteria and germs in a cut.

"Healing a cut and a sprained ankle though are two different things. For inflammation, fish such as wild salmon and omega 3 are key sources of nutrition to overcome an injury like a sprained ankle. I'm not one of those nutritionists which says food will solve everything, but it has a huge impact over time in terms of recovery and injuries of that nature, but the most important thing is time."
