Two senior Manchester United figures could leave as part of planned structural changes

Darren Fletcher and Matt Hargreaves could be among the departures at Manchester United as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe's planned structural changes.

It is understood a number of senior staff members remain uncertain over their futures at United and technical director Fletcher and director of football negotiations Hargreaves are not assured of staying. Ratcliffe's staff are continuing to assess United's infrastructure and a well-placed source said there will be "lots of changes to come".

Hargreaves only assumed the role of de facto transfer negotiator last summer while Fletcher was appointed technical director in March 2021. United have been contacted for comment.

A source who has dealt with Hargreaves said he has been trying to change United's image during his transfer market dealings United have approached Newcastle about sporting director Dan Ashworth, who has been placed on gardening leave, and are interested in recruiting Southampton director of football Jason Wilcox.

It remains unclear if football director John Murtough will remain in a more administrative role after Ratcliffe and Ineos sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford head-hunted Ashworth.

Murtough is still attending United matches and remains a lead figure in the club's recruitment plans for the summer transfer window. Ratcliffe appeared to overlook Murtough's position in the United hierarchy when he discussed his vision for the club with journalists on Wednesday.
