Two people taken to hospital after 'serious' crash closes major Cardiff route for hours

Two people were taken to hospital following a crash on a major road in Cardiff. Part of the A4232 was closed all night for almost 10 hours in both directions following the collision on Saturday night. Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported that the A4232 was shut from the A4161 Newport Road to Lamby Way following a "serious accident" so investigation work could take place.

South Wales Police were called to the scene of the crash in Southern Way at around 10.30pm and said the flyover leading to Rover Way would be closed for "some time". In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, at 10.34pm the South Wales Police Control Room said: "We are at the scene of a collision on Southern Way, Cardiff.

"The flyover leading to Rover Way is expected to remain closed for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. Delays are expected in the area."

On Sunday morning the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed it had attended the incident. A spokesman said: "We were in attendance and we did convey two patients to the University Hospital of Wales." The road re-opened at around 8.20am on Sunday morning.
