Two men from Rochdale charged after van driven at police officer

Two men from Rochdale have been charged after a van was driven at a police officer.

The officer was injured in the incident on Hewitt Road in St Helens, Merseyside, on Tuesday night (May 17). He suffered serious injuries to his shoulder and wrist, and is still receiving treatment in hospital where his condition is described as stable.

In an update issued today, Merseyside Police said two men have now been charged in connection with the incident. Umar Anwar, 30, of Birkdale Road, Rochdale, has been charged with causing serious injury/GBH by dangerous driving.

Ahmmad Anwar, 26 of Deeplish Road, Rochdale, has been charged with possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs - cocaine and cannabis. Both men have been remanded into custody.

They will appear before Liverpool magistrates later, police said. Anyone with information about the incident is being urged to come forward.
