Two Manchester United undroppables at risk of suspension for Chelsea fixture

Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes will both be walking a disciplinary tightrope when Manchester United face Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Fernandes, who has scored just once so far this season, picked up his fourth booking of the season during Sunday's goalless draw with Newcastle United at Old Trafford. The Portuguese international was cautioned by referee Craig Pawson for a foul on Bruno Guimaraes shortly past the hour mark.

It marked the 28-year-old's second yellow card in his last three matches, having also collected one in the 6-3 mauling against Manchester City a fortnight ago. It means that he is now just one booking away from serving a one-game ban.

Should he be cautioned once again in the clash with Spurs it means that he will be suspended for Saturday's crunch trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea. The Reds are currently three points behind the Londoners in the Premier League table following their 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

Dalot, too, is also just one booking away from a ban. He was not yellow carded in the draw with Newcastle but he has already picked up four cautions this season, the most recent of which came just two minutes into the defeat at City.

Like Fernandes, if booked against Antonio Conte's side on Wednesday night, he will also be suspended for the weekend's trip to the capital. The right-back, like his fellow countryman, has started every game for United so far this season, becoming one of the very first names on Erik ten Hag's teamsheet, meaning the Reds would be at a loss without him, considering Aaron Wan-Bissaka remains sidelined through injury.
